Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year to celebrate the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India by the Constituent Assembly of India on this day in 1949. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, officially declared 14 September as the Hindi Diwas.

Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, holds a significant position among the 22 scheduled languages of India. It stands as one of the official languages of the Union Government, alongside English.

About Hindi Language

Hindi, as a language, has profound historical origins that can be traced back to the banks of the Indus River in the northwestern region of India, known as Bharat. Initially, the people inhabiting this area were identified as ‘Hindu,’ and as time progressed, their language evolved into what we now recognize as Hindi.

Hindi, part of the Indo-Aryan branch of Indo-European languages, is one of India’s official languages, alongside English, according to Article 343. It was chosen as a symbol of national identity during the freedom struggle and has been a literary language since the twelfth century.
