Gujarat Provides ₹193 Crore Relief to Rain-Affected Surat, Valsad and Navsari
After heavy rainfall and flooding affected several parts of South Gujarat, the state government has provided ₹193.3 crore in financial assistance to people affected in Surat, Valsad and Navsari. The assistance is aimed at supporting families, farmers and other affected residents as communities recover from the damage caused by excessive rainfall.
The details of the relief were presented in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on September 9, 2026. The assistance covers different categories of losses, including damage to homes and household belongings, agricultural losses, cash assistance and other forms of support.

Beyond visible damage to roads and buildings, families can lose household belongings, farmers can suffer crop losses and livestock can also be affected. ₹55.4 Crore Assistance for Surat
Surat received ₹55.4 crore in assistance for various categories of damage caused by excessive rainfall during 2026.
A major portion of the assistance — approximately ₹39.1 crore — was provided towards household goods and clothing. Another ₹14.8 crore was distributed through cash assistance to affected people.
The relief package also included support related to human and livestock losses. Around ₹1.2 crore was provided as assistance in cases involving human deaths, while approximately ₹41.2 lakh was provided for livestock deaths.
Additional assistance was also provided for damaged houses and other structures, including kutcha and pucca houses, cattle sheds, huts and poultry-related losses.
For families dealing with the aftermath of flooding, assistance with basic household needs can be particularly important. Replacing essential belongings and restoring a household can take time, making financial support an important part of the recovery process.
Support Reaches Valsad and Navsari
The relief effort also extended significantly to Valsad and Navsari.
During the 2025–26 period, the government reported that ₹137.9 crore had been distributed to people affected by heavy rain and floods in the two districts.
Valsad received approximately ₹71.6 crore, benefiting 81,754 affected people. Navsari received approximately ₹66.2 crore, benefiting 1,24,996 people between August 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026.
Agricultural relief made up the largest component of assistance in both districts. This is especially important for South Gujarat, where farming remains an important part of the local economy and the livelihoods of many families.
In Valsad, around 41,854 beneficiaries received ₹57.4 crore under agricultural relief. In Navsari, approximately 29,793 beneficiaries received ₹46.7 crore in agricultural assistance.
Such assistance can help farmers manage losses and begin preparing for the next agricultural cycle.

Community organisations and volunteers also played an important role. Relief efforts included distributing food, drinking water and ration kits to families affected by flooding.
