India Extends Generous $450M Lifeline to Cyclone-Hit Sri Lanka

India reaffirms its unbreakable bond with Sri Lanka through a robust $450 million reconstruction package announced by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar during his Colombo visit, embodying the Neighbourhood First and SAGAR vision of compassionate solidarity.

Comprising $350 million in concessional credit and $100 million in grants, this timely aid targets cyclone Ditwah’s devastation, prioritizing road, railway, and bridge restoration alongside rebuilding fully and partially damaged homes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal letter, handed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, underscores India’s unwavering support amid Sri Lanka’s dual challenges of natural calamity and economic recovery.Building on Operation Sagar Bandhu’s swift delivery of 1,100 tonnes of relief and 14.5 tonnes of medical aid, Jaishankar’s engagements with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya highlight sustained collaboration for tourism revival and FDI growth.

This magnanimous gesture not only accelerates rebuilding but strengthens bilateral ties, fostering shared prosperity across the Indian Ocean region.
