After the lift of the Covid restrictions, the travel industry has started booming once again. As the Indian aviation landscape gets busier with the entry of new airlines and the rejuvenation of old ones, the recently-privatised Air India is ready to take on the competition with a shining new arsenal.
The Tata Group airline made the largest purchase of aircraft from Boeing. The previous record was held by the sale of 75 aircraft to Akasa airlines in 2021, until the purchase of Tata airlines. The group purchased 150 Boeing 737 MAX, adding a huge new fleet to their already star-studded airline.
Air India has unveiled major expansion plans, which involve winning a 30% market share both on domestic and international routes in the next five years. The airline recently roped in British brand and design consultancy firm Futurebrands to rework the Tata Group airline’s branding strategy.
Tata Sons plan to merge Vistara with Air India to create a full-service airline by 2024, and is in the middle of merging AirAsia India and Air India Express to create a low-cost airline.
