DRDO’s Akash-NG Triumph: Next-Gen Air Defence Shields India’s Skies

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a stellar milestone with the successful completion of User Evaluation Trials for the Next Generation Akash missile (Akash-NG) system, bolstering the Indian Air Force’s prowess against evolving aerial threats.

This state-of-the-art missile, featuring an indigenous Radio Frequency seeker and solid rocket motor propulsion, flawlessly intercepted targets across diverse scenarios, from near-boundary low-altitude strikes to long-range high-altitude engagements demonstrating unmatched precision, speed, and reliability. Developed through seamless collaboration between DRDO, the Indian Air Force, and industry partners, Akash-NG represents a leap in indigenous technology, enhancing medium-range air defence with superior mobility, quick reaction times, and multi-target engagement capabilities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the teams for this accomplishment, noting that Akash-NG will significantly fortify the nation’s aerial fortifications. Building on the legacy of over 100 proven Akash intercepts, this next-gen variant promises extended range, reduced footprint, and cost-effectiveness, empowering India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem.

As Akash-NG transitions toward full induction, it exemplifies Atmanirbhar Bharat’s vision, safeguarding sovereign skies with homegrown innovation and unyielding vigilance.
