Start-up Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched India’s first private rocket, Vikram-S, as a part of Mission Prarambh. The four-year-old Hyderabad start-up’s miraculous feat will significantly boost the nation’s private sector space industry.
The Vikram-S rocket was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India, on November 18 at 11:30 am.
“The Vikram-S rocket is a single-stage sub-orbital launch vehicle which will carry three customer payloads and help test and validate technologies in the Vikram series space launch vehicles,” said Naga Bharath Daka, COO and co-founder of the company.
In June 2020, the Indian government passed the space sector reforms and established the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) to allow private companies to use ISRO’s infrastructure. This new policy will bolster private participation and increase investment in the country’s space sector.
