‘NAATU NAATU’ Wins an Oscan Nomination After 13 Years For Best Original Song

The last time an Indian song won an Oscar for music was back in 2009 when AR Rahmaan won the best original song Jai Ho. The phenomenon reoccurred about 13 years later when the hosts Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams announced the news at the presentation of the nomination in Beverly Hills. Soon after the artist of ‘Naatu Naatu’, from the hit Telugu-language film RRR, collected their well-deserving ‘Best original’ award at the Oscars 2022.

As soon as the official announcement was made, the official Twitter handle of RRR posted a positive message saying – ‘WE CREATED HISTORY.’ Composer MM Keeravaani hailed the Oscar nod and tweeted – ‘big hugs to all’.

The song generated enormous amounts of Oscar buzz after its consecutive win of The Golden Globes award, the British Academy awards as well as the Critics Choice award. 

Apart from the song, 2 documentaries also won their oscar nomination at the 95th Oscars this year.” All that breaths” deservingly won its nomination in the documentary feature film category”. At the same time “The elephant whispers”, won in the documentary short film category.

Guneet Monga, the producer of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ expressed her gratitude for the nominations through a Twitter post. She said that the Oscars nod was a ‘reward in itself’, while also mentioning the other two movies – RRR and All That Breathes – saying ‘This is for India’.
