R Praggnanandhaa Reaches the Finals of the FIDE World Cup 2023

Indian chess player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has created a historic record by becoming the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to reach the World Chess Final.

Praggnanandhaa is also the youngest Indian grand master after he achieved the feat in 2018 aged 12. In the year 2018, Praggnanandhaa became the second youngest Grand Master after achieving the feat at the age of 12 years, 10 months, and 13 days. He beat Luco Moroni in the Gredine Open in Italy to get to the remarkable record. In the year 2022, Praggnanandhaa, at the online Airthings Masters, was the third Indian after Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna to beat World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

He was the youngest to beat the reigning world champion.

At the age of 18, Praggnanandhaa beat world no. 3 Fabiano Caruana in the tie-breaker to reach the FIDE World Cup final. He is the second Indian to achieve the feat after Viswanathan Anand.

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa became the runner-up in the FIDE World Cup. The cup was handed in the hands of world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, who beat him 1.5-0.5 in the tie-breaks on the 24th of August, Thursday. Because of the great performance, Praggnanandhaa secured a place in the highly prestigious Candidates Tournament in 2024 which is scheduled to be hosted in Canada.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated by saying that Praggnanandhaa made the nation proud and his run to the final was no small feat.

“We are proud of Praggnanandhaa for his remarkable performance at the FIDE World Cup! He showcased his exceptional skills and gave a tough fight to the formidable Magnus Carlsen in the finals. This is no small feat. Wishing him the very best for his upcoming tournaments”- PM Modi wrote on X; formerly Twitter.

President of India Droupadi Murmu also gave credits to Praggnanandhaa  for displaying the “highest level of excellence.” “I convey my heartiest congratulations to him for this phenomenal performance. He had made the nation proud,” she added.

Former Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore praised the young Indian for giving his best. “You either win, or you learn. You gave your best and won the hearts of over 140crorse Indians, @rpragchess! That’s all that matters.”-He tweeted on X; formerly Twitter.
