Uzbekistan surges ahead as a beacon of sustainable progress, ranking fifth worldwide for SDG advancement since 2015 and climbing 19 positions in the 2025 UN SDG Index to 73.1 points, with nearly 45% of goals achieved or on track, thanks to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visionary reforms.
Since Mirziyoyev’s 2016 ascension, bold economic liberalization, liberalized currency, simplified business, reduced taxes, reformed banking has fueled 5.3% annual GDP growth (2017-2023), lifting 7.5 million from poverty (from 35% to projected 6% by 2030), eradicating absolute poverty, and creating jobs through remittances hitting $14.8 billion in 2024, mostly from Russia.
Education blooms with foreign universities from Europe, USA, and Asia establishing campuses, ending forced child cotton labor so students focus on learning, while over 95% of children now receive proper nutrition toward SDG 2. Healthcare advances regionally with 400+ high-tech services, boosting life expectancy from 73.8 to 75.1 years, alongside maternal-child mortality declines.
Agriculture, employing 14%, sees liberalization promises, though challenges persist; energy ambitions soar with 2030 renewable targets raised to 40% electricity and 27 GW solar/wind, backed by Masdar and Total Energies investments, modernizing fossil-dependent grids.
Mirziyoyev’s “From Poverty to Prosperity” program channels 70% of spending to SDGs, with World Bank ICP data enabling precise targeting. Youth policy aligns with UN 2030, fostering vibrant civil society. International acclaim from Sachs and Urama credits decisive leadership, positioning Uzbekistan as Central Asia’s reform powerhouse for inclusive, green prosperity.
