Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the beginning of World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 through his inauguration ceremony at the Jio Convention Center in Mumbai on May 1. This four-day worldwide conference seeks to establish India as a top destination for media and entertainment through its gathering of professionals who work within film production as well as animation and gaming industries and music groups along with digital media specialists.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted during his speech that the summit served as an instrument to develop creative and innovative forces in the Indian entertainment industry. He stressed that the government both supports sector growth and believes the industry can powerfully boost the national economy.
A wide range of proposal-centered activities appear at the summit such as the WAVES Bazaar which enables investments and the WAVES Accelerator designed for new innovation assistance and Creatosphere which functions as a platform for idea sharing and collaboration. The platforms target partnerships while highlighting the recent advancements in entertainment technology that India has achieved.
Renowned personalities from the entertainment realm commended the event for its importance. Actor Shah Rukh Khan celebrated the upcoming summit because he felt it would become a celebration focused on supporting creative endeavors. The entertainment industry has found great value in this initiative according to actor Akshay Kumar who described it as a “wonderful idea” which helps the industry grow together as a global forum.
Devendra Fadnavis the Maharashtra Chief Minister declared his intent to set up the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Film City Mumbai through central government funding of ₹400 crore. The IICT projects itself as a Creative Technology education and research center following the model set by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
WAVES 2025 will be a significant event which will unite over 100 nations to explore media and entertainment sector technologies and policies and investment prospects. India shows strong determination to lead the creative economy sector worldwide through this summit.
