The Lion’s Feast – Book Review

The Lion’s Feast by Lavanya Karthik and Chetan Sharma, published by Karadi Tales is a

wonderful book about idli, dosas, chutney and of course, a lion!

The story tells a tale of an old couple Muthumama and Muthumami who live at the edge of the

forest. One day a hungry lion decides to have them for dinner. Muthumami, to save themselves,

invites the lion for a South Indian feast.

This story will tickle every child’s funny bone when the hospitality goes wrong. It will also excite

their taste buds with the aroma of heavenly Idli Sambhar and flavorsome chutney.

The onomatopoeia used in the story makes it even more interesting. The illustrations in this

story are so vivid, colourful and bright that it makes the fiery ravenous lion spring to life!

The best part of the story is it’s ending. It allows children to choose their ending and turn the

page accordingly. It even gives children the choice of writing their own ending, using their

imagination and give the story a beautiful ending according to their moral values. It is definitely a

must read for a good laugh.
