What is World Peace Day?

The International Day of Peace or World Peace Day by the United Nations promotes peace while ceasing violence and conflicts worldwide each year. The International Day of Peace is often associated with a dove and the olive branch where the dove represents peace and freedom, while the olive branch has been a traditional symbol of peace dating back to ancient times.

 

Significance of this day….

The International Day of Peace aims to remind of the UN’s commitment to peace and conflict resolution and encourages individuals, communities, and nations to work towards a more peaceful and just world. It continues to be an important day for promoting dialogue, understanding, and co-operation among people and nations. The United Nations believes that true peace encompasses not just the absence of violence but the “building of societies where all members feel that they can flourish.

Every year International Day of Peace channels a great theme that amplifies the ambition of making the world a better place to live. This year the following day has arrived with a significant theme: ” Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals”. According to the UN, it is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. On this special day, let people worldwide come together and celebrate non-violence and a ceasefire. This day reminds everyone to maintain peace according to the International Day of Peace 2023 theme.

 

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Peace is needed today more than ever. War and conflict are unleashing devastation, poverty, and hunger, and driving tens of millions of people from their homes. Climate chaos is all around. And even peaceful countries are gripped by gaping inequalities and political polarization.
