Railways Roll Out Special Trains, Offering Timely Relief to Stranded Air Travellers

New Delhi: In a swift and commendable display of national coordination, the Indian Railways has stepped in to provide much-needed relief to thousands of passengers whose travel plans were recently disrupted by widespread flight cancellations across the country.

The Western Railway (WR) and East Coast Railway (ECoR) zones have proactively announced a massive rollout of special trains and the augmentation of existing services to ensure seamless connectivity and accommodation for stranded air travelers. This decisive action has transformed a potentially chaotic travel situation into an organized transition, underscoring the Railways’ role as the backbone of national transport.

Expansive Services Deployed

To effectively manage the sudden surge in demand, the two railway zones have activated numerous dedicated services on key routes connecting major metropolitan hubs.

The Western Railway announced the operation of several special-fare trains linking key destinations such as:

  • Mumbai Central with New Delhi, Bhiwani, and Shakur Basti.

  • Bandra Terminus to Durgapura.

  • Sabarmati to Delhi and Delhi Sarai Rohilla.

Simultaneously, the East Coast Railway initiated services and added extra coaches to cater to passengers heading towards high-demand regions, including Mumbai (LTT), New Delhi (ANVT), Bengaluru (SMVB/YPR), and Howrah. This effort includes running special trains like the Bhubaneswar-LTT and Puri-Anand Vihar services.

Boosting Capacity and Comfort

Beyond the special services, the Indian Railways also enhanced the capacity of existing popular trains by attaching extra coaches. This strategic move directly addresses the urgent demand for accommodation, particularly in air-conditioned classes. Notable trains, including Tejas Rajdhani Express services, have been augmented with additional First AC and Third AC coaches, offering comfortable alternatives for passengers who lost their air bookings.

This swift and comprehensive response by the Indian Railways ensures that passengers facing unexpected travel delays can quickly resume their journeys, transforming a challenging situation into a smooth and reliable travel experience. The coordinated effort highlights the national transporter’s deep commitment to passenger welfare and logistical efficiency in times of unforeseen crisis.
